Voting for a better place to life, prosper

To the editor:

Some individual or a group of individuals put the blame of our city’s woes on Mayor Greer and councilmen Bates and Katchmar. I suppose the rest of the council was either on vacation or sleeping when these three tried to vote in changes that only implied for their own interest.

Trying to make the downtown a better place for business growth, “Wow” (isn’t that what our president wants to do) and create more jobs. Maybe it’s possible to get larger companies to look at our area as a place to build in a friendly community. We believe their interest was to make this city a better place to live and grow.

You’re right these three voted against the Dinosaur Museum at the Gorge, but all they wanted was the council to be more transparent to its citizens, instead of passing it through like the others wanted to do.

If the expected figures on supposed money into the city account doesn’t occur (we’re in nationwide recession remember), guess who gets to make up the difference, Cañon City taxpayers, because the big money backers still want their investment paid off, think about it. We also went to the city’s presentation of the museum, because we thought this was a good idea for our city. After looking at the figures presented, it didn’t seem to make sense to us, 30 years, many things had to fall in place for this to work out.

Someone wrote advice from an “old” dog — newer or younger doesn’t necessarily mean better and smarter. It also could mean “Good Ole’ Boy” tactics, just doesn’t belong in this century.

When you go to the polls in November, really look at the candidates and try not to let campaign smearing and dirty politics sway your vote for a better place to live and prosper.

And you can check it out, we really are registered to vote.

Doug and Vicki Vivod,

Cañon City
